◄ Immune Modulation ►
"Beloved, I would that above all things that thou mayest
prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."
III John 1:2 KJV Complete health requires complete
nutrition. If our bodies cannot have the raw materials
or nutrients required for our metabolism to function
properly we become vulnerable to disease. Either as a
direct result of a nutritional deficiency or
most often when we
become more susceptible to disease from a weak or
malfunctioning immune system. When we first notice
that something is wrong, the first response in today's
modern society is to go to the doctor or to the drugstore
for some prescription or over-the-counter medication.
Your doctor and pharmacist have been well trained by the
colleges and universities that are supported by the
pharmaceutical industry. Trained in which drugs to give
you to help relieve the symptoms of the disease that you
will gladly pay the doctor to diagnose you as having.
Most of the drugs prescribed by your doctor will seem
to help for a time but never really get at the root
cause of the problem. These drugs will often have side
effects for which the doctor will prescribe even more
drugs. The complicating factor here is that the drugs
usually only treat the symptoms of a disease. We go on
our merry way having turned off the flashing red warning
light that is trying to tell us "there is something wrong".
That something wrong is most often something missing from
our diet. Our subconscious mind automatically remembers
which foods tend to help which kinds of problems.
I believe that's
where many food cravings come from. The advertising
industry seeks to overcome what we already know and
educate us to purchase the products that they advertise
to make us feel better. It is our own personal
responsibility to educate ourselves. So that we can
become truly healthy and not have to worry about the
whole symptom, diagnosis, disease, "cure" illusion
fostered by the medical and pharmaceutical industry
practice. Most doctors, pharmacists and medical
researchers are very nice well-meaning folks who are just trying to help. The trouble is that
they have a limited tool set to work with. In order
for the pharmaceutical industry to profit and continue
in existence they must patent unique chemical formulations
for which they can charge a pretty good amount of money.
I contend that this limited approach is neither the most
cost-effective or efficient manner in which one may
maintain good health. Contrariwise worrying about
symptoms, diseases and so-called cures can be a very
nonproductive waste of both time and money. Good
nutrition does not have to be overly complicated or
expensive. It does require self education and attention
to the subtle clues that subconsciously drive our behavior.
If we are always reaching for a candy bar or the sugar
container, it's time to reevaluate our conditioned
response. Feeding a lack of energy with refined sugar
and massive doses of refined carbohydrates only makes
the peaks and valleys of our blood sugar roller coaster
ride worse and worse. If it's a quick energy boost that
is really needed alright then, eat a granola bar or a
handful of dried fruit. Be sure to follow that up with
some protein right away to avoid the sugar crash that
inevitably follows the consumption of a pure sugar and
carb snack. Stay in balance, don't just blindly feed
the craving. A healthy immune system requires a broad
spectrum of good nutrition to function well. A crippled
immune system requires patient rebuilding over time of
the specific malfunctioning component. It's not the
cancer that kills people, it's the failure of our
immune system to kill and destroy the attacker.
