Breaking news aboutSARS

"Sickening And Repulsive Scam"
http://www.sarsscam.com
Dr. Len Horowitz is a Harvard graduate in public health who describes himself as a former "insider". A moral awakening occurred to him during an investigation while preparing to be an expert witness for the trial of a dentist accused of spreading AIDS to his patients. His views are very non-mainstream although I believe that he knows very much what he is talking about when it comes to public health. His energy frequency healing techniques seemed kinda far out to me until I started doing further reasearch. Who knows? He just may be way ahead of his time.

Sat. 17 May 2003 -- www.healify.com -- My personal opinion, not to be construed as medical advise.
There have been many echoes in the press about the news from a few weeks ago 25 April, 2003 noted below. A biotech company has applied for a patent for use of drugs called sartans to down modulate certain inflammatory immune system responses to SARS infection. Should they be able to pull this off it should mean a major financial windfall for them. Trouble is that there are many old and new herbal plant bioflavonoids that are already commonly known to and that are medically proven in research studies to accomplish the same function. Just as long as you don't say that any specific plant or nutritional component works specifically for SARS infections it is still legal to tell the truth without getting sued by the FDA. I have heard many reasonable claims in this vein for beta-glucans, quercetin, and rose hips for instance. Whenever I have suspected viral respiratory problems I have personally taken astragalus, and quercetin, both in the past and recently together with beta-glucans after a trip to Canada to great effect myself.

Legal Disclaimer and rant. These are "anecdotal" statements that should not be legally actionable. In fact the better part of this entire site is biased on my "anecdotal" experiences with dozens of nutritional supplements. Please insert an irreverent razzberry sound right about here. O Medical Deity heal us of all our diseases. We will gladly pay $300 per month for medical insurance. So that you can say psychosamatic instead of ideopathic and provide a psychiatric referal. Until the symptoms progress to the point of undeniable permanent damage. Which is when they will finally begin to say Ideopathic bla bla bla. I know what that word means, every time I hear it I wonder if they mean instead iatrogenic? Dr. Len Horowitz takes it one step further than I do, he uses the word iatrogenocide.

The FDA is pursuing multiple health and nutrition web sites with a vengeance.

People are over-reacting to SARS, creating a worldwide panic that could overwhelm attempts to contain the disease, two of the world's leading virus scientists say.

Institute of Science in Society -- Bio-Terrorism & SARS
http://www.i-sis.org.uk/BioTerrorismAndSARS.php
The world has been whipped up into hysteria over terrorist attacks and ‘weapons of mass destruction’. Governments want to ban the publication of sensitive scientific research results, and a group of major life sciences editors and authors has concurred. Some even suggest an international body to police research and publication. Dr. Mae-Wan Ho  looks at the current SARS epidemic and argues why all of those measures to control bio- terrorism are misplaced, and what’s really needed.

25 Apr 2003 -- Lycos -- GenoMed Announces Potential Therapy for SARS
http://finance.lycos.com/home/news/story.asp?story=33962454
ST. LOUIS, Fla., April 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- GenoMed, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets: GMED) ("the Company" or "GenoMed"), a St. Louis, Missouri-based medical genomics and Next Generation Disease Management(TM) company, announced today a novel anti-viral therapy that may decrease mortality in the current epidemic of SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome). The Company is looking for patient and physician collaborators. SARS is caused by a coronavirus. However, it is not the virus which kills people, but their own exuberant immune response. Down-modulating their immune response in a precise, not general, fashion, should convert coronavirus to just another viral infection, no more serious than the common cold.

Not much substantive news this week. Everybody afraid to call SARS / coronavirus a bioterror event except two Russian scientists on a UFO web site. Reliable sources say early July before they will issue a definitive statement either way.
